# July Flash Challenge Post 3

The basics of spell-craft were never a real mystery to her. Moving things, changing things, setting them on fire - these things were as natural to her as walking. They required conscious decision, but the transition from thought to action was completely seamless.

She never concerned herself with grades. She wasn't here for a grade-point average. What she wanted was knowledge, and information and access to knowledge here was a waterfall whose supply never ran dry.

Likewise, she considered herself not above, but beyond the envy, the jealousy, and the petty passive aggressions of her classmates. She concerned herself with herself, and tackled the learning and the problems of each day with determination and enthusiasm.

Her problems started with the magics of the mind. She could manipulate the physical world as well as any first-year ever, and better than most of the undergraduates. But the lack of a physical anchor left her directionless and unable to proceed.

Professors were flummoxed. Peers were delighted. Finally, the golden child was proving herself to be a mere mortal.

She studied and absorbed all she could. Her understanding was flawless, and she could recite to you, not only by rote, but through thorough understanding, the components, the logic, and the mechanisms of all of the mental magic. It was only when she went to apply those learnings that she failed. Nothing happened. And no one seemed to have the answer.

Finally, in desperation, and in fear that she would not be permitted to continue her studies, she called a toll-free number on a late-night infomercial that sold attunements to the ethereal plane. Money was exchanged and she went to bed, hoping against hope that she would be able to perform her magic in class the next day.

Her spell worked, no doubt. Her mastery was verified. But no one in the school would ever forget, nor would they ever let her live down, the watermark on her spell, advertising "Mystical Attunement by Madame Cleo."
