So, if you've been following along, you'll know that I've been at bisonweb.ca for years. Now, I'm making my home at amwriting.ca -- this place. 'Why the switch?' you might wonder. Well, I'll tell you. I haven't done anything with Bisonweb since 2016, and I don't really see that changing any time soon. But I've been writing, and you could say I am writing right now. Which brings me to the point. I've wanted to have a home for my writing for a long time. It's why I made my start on Blogger in 2005, and it's why I've been online and carried my stuff around with me that whole time.
I liked Blogger well enough for what it was: free. But I didn't actually enjoy it, so I switched to WordPress until I found Ghost. Ghost filled a need, but I realized that I was paying for something I was barely using. With this, with GitHub Pages, I've found a solution that combines my love for not paying for things with a good amount of control over my sandbox. I've got a VuePress mechanism that takes markdown files and converts them to HTML, but it does more than that. I can create widgets and include them in my layout, I can change my template -- heck, it's almost like any other blog engine. But everything I publish is part of a repository that I own and I control. no more database on a remote server acting like the only copy of my writing. No more web-based WYSIWYG editor for me to type into., I write in text files in which ever software I choose, in a format that doesn't get in my way, and use tools that I use in my day job to publish my content here.
So... content. I have thougths, sometimes. On life, on anxiety, on random things that are going through my mind. You can find those here.
I also write stories. Novels, short stories, flash fiction. When they get to the point where they're ready for public consumption, I'll put them here.
When I read a book, if it sticks with me, or if I feel particularly verbose, I'll stick my thoughts here.
Instead of having to come back here to see where to go, you can find shortcuts to all the sections in the site's header.
Welcome.
