# Party Like It's 2006

I know, I know. I've had this blog for a long time, and done far less with it than I probably wanted to, so instead of writing more content, I've decided to spend some time sprucing the place up.

# What's New?

# RSS

Want to keep up with what's new? You can subscribe:

This has the benefit of keeping you up-to-date with my latest verbal meanderings, even if I forget to post them to facebook, or for some reason find myself no longer there.

I'm not hip to the latest RSS clients, but Reeder for MacOS has treated me reasonably well in the time that I've used it.

# Comments

Ideally, all discussion around my posts would happen in one spot, so I created a place for that, in the comment section below. I'm not super-satisfied with the cludgy way I have to process the comments, but hey, at least it isn't stealing your personal information. Glares side-eyed at Disqus

I'm not super-satisfied with the look of this section just yet, so expect that to change more frequently than other sections.

# Upcoming changes

# Site Cleanup

I have too many tags for my tastes. I liked it better when I had six or seven total, and I could filter them out fairly easily. I also have twelve or thirteen years worth of blog posts from other platforms that I would like to curate and pull forward onto this site. And I've been cleaning up some book reviews that I wrote on Goodreads and I'll be posting them here.

# Site Style Uplift

When I got this site up and running, I happily wrote a small, minimalistic style that let me put that to the side and focus on content (which clearly was a rousing success with twenty-odd posts in two years). I would like to add a sidebar and some other things. What? I don't know for sure yet, but will see.

# Blog Roll

Once upon a time, I had a list of friends' blogs, and that was awesome, because everyone had blogs. I will get a list of blogs I care about and it will reside in the sidebar that will one day exist.

# Why?

'This all sounds like a lot of work,' hypothetical you says. 'Facebook is easier. WordPress and Blogger are easier.'

Well, hypothetical you is right. All of that is easier. If I was to do something easier, it would probably be WordPress, but I won't because I like this sandbox. I like writing my own components in Vue. I like having easy access to every aspect of my site, and I don't find that's been as easy with WordPress. The process to publish content is a little daunting, but that's something I will deal with.

I've been focusing on this primarily because I've been feeling more and more done with Facebook. At its best, it's a huge time sink. I realize that if and when I abandon it, it will be with a whimper, but I don't want to spend a bunch of energy propping up a propaganda machine that I believe is harmful.
